The beach at Cerritos, or Playa los Cerritos Baja California Sur, Mexico is a fun place to frolic in the ocean. Santa Lucia de Los Cerritos, is best known simply as "Cerritos".
The turn-off for Cerritos Beach from Highway 19 is at the top of a hill at about kilometer 66. There will be a wide road on your left hand side. Cerritos Beach aka Playa los Cerritos is a great place to learn to surf, with its gentle rolling waves and sandy bottom there is less likelihood that you would get hurt. Even the more experienced surfers love the rolling waves and the soft sandy bottom at Cerritos Beach. Cerritos beach does not have a rocky bottom like San Pedrito Point surf break.
As you approach the beach you’ll feel the cool breeze embrace you with its freshness. Walking across the fine sand beach you will experience the power of the Pacific! There is often a sandbar where the water sparkles with “fools gold”. Surfers paddle out into this right point break, with variable waves on the inside; and depending on the sand bar, you can often catch some nice lefts that peel into beautiful tubes. Cerritos breaks steadily, set after set, with no frequent “waiting time” between sets. This creates a constant “white water” parade of waves. On the inside, in the shallower water, it is a wonderful place to learn how to surf.
Cerritos is a great spot for both the experienced surfer and beginner alike. With a local surf instructor it’s easy to get hooked on the world of surfing.
There is a rip tide on the right hand side of the beach right next to the rocks that acts like an express lane for experienced surfers. This rip tide takes you right outside of where the waves break, so you can easily catch the next set of waves, then paddle over to the rip tide and do it again. You can surf effortlessly all day! You will have a wonderful surfing experience at Cerritos Beach. Be cautious of any rip tide even though it is at the calm Cerritos Beach or Playa los Cerritos. Please do not play in the water near it, or allow your children to play near the rip tide. Just go down the beach about 60 yards to get away from it. It's very important to instruct the other people in your party that if they get caught in a rip tide, to swim parallel to the beach several yards and then try to swim in, if the current is still strong, swim a few more yards and try again, until they are away from the rip tide.
Aside from surfing, Cerritos Beach has an activity center where you can schedule other activities. Cerritos Beach Club & Surf has something for everyone. They offer ATV rentals, Jet Ski tours, horseback riding, surf lessons, volleyball, spear fishing, mountain bike rentals and tours, kayaking, aerial Tours and sea tours including deep sea fishing, whale watching & surf lessons. Or you might be more interested in relaxing on the beach. You can take a beachfront yoga lesson, have a massage or enjoy Live Music on the weekends while you partake of a delicious meal or a drink from the Cerritos Beach Club Bar. Come and try their signature Cerritos Añejo Tequila. On Saturdays Cerritos Beach Club Bar features Flamenco Guitarist/Violinist Daniel Siqueiros and on Sundays they feature one of Cabo's most popular jazz singers Dalene Jones and Pianist Diego Ramirez. Cerritos Beach Club & Surf is open 7 days a week from 8:00 am to 8:00 pm. They serve breakfast, lunch and dinner. They also offer free pickup and drop off to and from your hotel.
